February Endurance Challenge

City of Bayswater Recreation is excited to launch the February Health Club Member Challenge at Bayswater Waves and The RISE – a 4-Week Endurance Challenge designed to test strength, stamina and consistency in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Created by trainers Cherie and George, this challenge features a new exercise each week, a 3-minute time cap, and an age-based handicap system to keep the competition fair and accessible for members of all fitness levels.

How to Take Part

Getting involved is easy – simply speak with an on-site gym staff member at Bayswater Waves or The RISE to register and complete each weekly challenge. No online registration is required.

Scores are recorded weekly and accumulate across all four weeks.


How Scoring Works

  • 1 repetition = 1 point

  • 1 second held = 1 point

  • Rowing: 10 metres = 1 point

  • Weekly scores accumulate across all 4 weeks

  • Age handicap points are added each week to ensure fair competition


Weekly Challenges

Week 1 – Core Endurance

3 minutes – As Many Rounds As Possible

  • Flutter Kicks – 10 reps

  • Sit Ups – 10 reps


Week 2 – Lower Body Strength

Unbroken Hold – Maximum 3 minutes

  • Weighted Wall Sit

Age-Based Weights

  • 18–29: 20kg

  • 30–39: 15kg

  • 40–49: 10kg

  • 50–59: 5kg

  • 60+: Bodyweight only


Week 3 – Strength & Movement

As Many Reps As Possible – Maximum 3 minutes

  • Weighted Alternating Forward Lunges

Age-Based Weights

  • 18–29: 20kg total (dumbbells or plate)

  • 30–39: 15kg

  • 40–49: 10kg

  • 50–59: 5kg

  • 60+: Bodyweight only


Week 4 – Cardio Finish

Row Sprint – Maximum 3 minutes

  • Rowing machine

  • Damper fixed at 5 for all participants

Scoring:

  • 10 metres = 1 point


Age-Based Handicap System

Bonus points are added each week based on age group:

  • 18–29: +0 points

  • 30–39: +5 points

  • 40–49: +10 points

  • 50–59: +15 points

  • 60–69: +20 points

  • 70+: +25 points

This system ensures the challenge remains fair, motivating and inclusive for all members.
